Fiber Arts Friday: Recycled Wool Nightcap is Progressing

It has been cold and rainy for much of the last few weeks and I have been on the road some, so I've had a lot of knitting time recently.  Which means I have made a lot of progress on my Recycled Wool Nightcap.

If you've been reading my brain for a while, you may remember the bag of a zillion tiny balls of yarn...

Once I made it past the main body of the hat and all of it's yarn overs, I decided the plethora of knit and purl rounds on the peak was the perfect place to use up these tiny yarn balls.  I don't think I'll use them all, but certainly most will be consumed.

I made the big move from circular needles to dpns.  This step always gets me excited because I know I'm getting close to being finished.

However, I'm really slow on the double-pointed needles.  So I decided to try out the two circular method...

I'm definitely faster with the two circulars and since this hat only decreases 4 stitches every 3rd round, I can use all of the speed enhancers I can get.

Happy Fiber Arts Friday!  Please be sure to visit the other Fiber Artists because you're sure to see some interesting work.

Great progress! I think the two circulars is a great idea, I'm going to store that in my head for use later. I am slow on DPN's, it is good to know I'm not alone!

The circulars make the project much more flexible compaired to double pointed.

It is coming out wonderfully well too. I can't wait to see it finished.

The hat is coming along nicely. Are you weaving in ends as you go? that's a lot of ends with so many little balls of yarn.

Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

Looking good, I love the upcycled yarn, nice project, you're almost done!

I have yet to conquer four dpns. I have tried once, just recently, and it got the better of me. I'll try again later, though.

However, I really liked the 2 circular method. If I hadn't had a pattern that needed so many increases, I would have definitely gone with the 2 circulars. :)

The hat is coming along just fine - can't wait to see it finished.

I agree...the two circ method is a whole lot less tedious. Of course, it helps that I was taught that way.

I can't wait to see the finished hat. It does seem like ages ago since it was started but glad to see progress is being made.

Oh I am all for circular needles! I get terrible ladders with DPNs. I'll use circs down to four stitches on each needle!

Can't wait to see the finished hat!

You absolutely rock! I did what you said and now my Blogger commenting is back to normal. Thank you so much. Your hat is very nice and it's great that you've found a method of knitting that works faster for you. I used to love 2 circs for socks but for some reason I've reverted all the way back to dpn's and stayed with it. That's why that make so many different kinds of needles, so we can all be happy with our knitting. Happy Friday!

Thank you all for the great support. I sure love FAF! :-)

I have not woven any ends in yet, that will definately take a while. ;-)

I cast this project on in October 2010. It's been a fill in, so it hasn't had much focused time. But it is nice to be making some real progress.

Nice work, you'll soon be finished! I am a big fan of the 2-circular method myself. I don't mind DPNs, but I'm so much faster with the circs -- and they aren't always falling out of project and into the couch :-)

@VdV - the 4 dpn method is not difficult. I just spend so much time caping the ends because I'm paranoid the work is going to fall off. I probably spend more time capping than knitting... especially on these #2s.

So nice to see I'm not the only one who gets excited about switching over to dpns! (or two circulars)
