Fiber Arts Friday: Estes Park Wool Festival, 2012

Ahhh, the Estes Park Wool Festival where two of my favorite subjects collide.... Estes Park, Colorado and all things Fiber-y.  :-)

I had a few things on my mind for this festival... especially the cashmere goat show.  I happened upon the end of it a couple of years ago and missed it completely last year.  I could not find the schedule of events, so I missed it again this year.  :-/  But I did spy a few of them snoozing.

I was also looking for some specific yarn for a specific project.  I didn't find it, but I did find this...

wool + silk + viscose

I think it will turn into something wonderful.  :-)

I also found some special roving for the Tour de Fleece.

Corriedale Top

cashmere + silk

camel + merino

alpaca

llama

I will be spinning with the Team of Wonder again.   :-)  Of course, I just realized that most of the rovings are very nearly the same color...  lol.

The High Park Wildfire started that day, which I wrote about here.  So it was difficult to relax and spend time enjoying Estes Park, as I typically do when I'm there.

As of about 6:30 last night the fire looked like this from our place....

I think this photo is optimistic.  The fire is estimated at 52,000 acres (larger than the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland combined) and about 15% contained.  At the time I was taking this photo, the fire was racing to the north and had crossed the Poudre River.  That being said, last night was the best air quality we've had in nearly a week.

I am pleased to note that our Governor issued a state-wide ban on all open fires and private fireworks yesterday.

I hope you are enjoying your Fiber Arts Friday.  Please join us over at Wisdom Begins in Wonder.  There's always a lot to see.  :-)

Ugh, I hope they can get control of the fire soon. I have a friend that lives in Fort Collins.......

Your wool and roving, and lovely pictures are wonderful. Can't wait to see what you create.

the fires sound awful-I can't imagine what it must be like.
your wools look great-I'm spinning with Team of Wonder, too. I have Llama and alpaca ready to go.

I too am very thankful for the ban. I think fireworks should be banned in tandem with open fire bans all the time. Not that the bans really stop people from letting off fireworks, but I hope it reduces the numbers.

Your fiber take looks luscious! It reminds me I have some camel-silk I really should spin up sometime soon.

I would love to go to Estes Park one year - maybe next June? Can't wait to see what you make with your Cashmere fleece.

The wool, silk and viscose coloway is all fall-y good! Here's to continued good air quality, fire containment, and spinning during the Tour de Fleece. :)

I thought the rovings were natural color and you'd plan to dye them.

So glad you are in relative clearing of the fire, it sure looks scary in pictures. We are in high fire danger too because of the dry winter we had. Luckily we live in dense neighborhood and across the street from two fire houses (one belongs to the county office). Stay safe!

Lovely fibre goodies and very cute sleepy goats.

Hope you are still staying safe.

Every time I see the news about the fires, I think of you living so close to it all.

I love all of the roving you bought. If you don't like the yarn once it's spun you can always overdye it.

Those goats are adorable and that yarn is gorgeous. I can't wait to see what you knit with it.

Lovely goats even if they are sleeping. I'm so glad you've got better air to breath and I love that yarn you bought. Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

Your yarn looks so pretty - I can't wait to see what pattern you choose to go with it.

Hopefully the fires will be under control soon!
