I don't fully understand the idea of tipping when placing an order or reservation.
A tip is a reward for good service. If you tip ahead of time, what's the incentive?

It's a principle of mine to never tip until I have actually gotten something extra. If you just sell me a soda, you get nothing. If you ran to a shop across the street to get me that soda because you were out of stock, then you get a tip :-)
