A New Tool: Pressure Canner

While we were having our snow day on Sunday, I decided to try out pressure canning for the first time.

3 quarts of Chicken Stock, safe for the shelf. :-)

It never occurred to me that you could can stock. We've been eating chicken soup from scratch about once a week this winter and DH has been big on giving the boys bone broth to drink with most meals...canning some would certainly help come summer when we don't want the crock going 24/7.

Yay! I'm so excited for you. I haven't used mine to can yet (and it is probably pretty small for doing much canning), but I adore it for beans and grains and one pot soups. I even have a dal makhani recipe that is made in the pressure cooker. And the whole reason I have one is that growing up a favorite meal was potatoes, sauerkraut and keilbasa in the pressure cooker. So when I moved out mom gave me one for Christmas.

Ooooh, canning soup stock. I should do that because I'm always afraid I'll lose everything in the freezer to a power outage. Yours looks so pretty.

I was about to say no fair..your pot has a gauge on top and mine doesn't but then realised yours is a pressure canner and my flea market find is a pressure cooker. One day I hope a pressure canner comes into my life..one day! Your stock looks great! :)
