Knit 1, Purl 1... forever. I thought it would keep me happy, but I strongly dislike this yarn. :-/
Then, thanks to a suggestion that Vivian made, I thought the Wingspan would be a good solution.
So I started with some yarn I had intended for another project. The yarn/pattern combo didn't do it for me, so the yarn has been lounging in my stash for a while.
I think this combo is looking pretty good, although with the US10.5 needles and bulky yarn, this is going to be huge... Those are 29-inch circulars! Not really the kind of thing you want around your neck... or at least not the kind of thing I want around my neck.
So I went back to my stash and pulled out a yummy green that I wanted to make socks with... but seeing as how I (1) am having trouble with socks right now, (2) I have enough for a Wingspan and (3) also have the right size and length of needle on hand, I cast on.
Hopefully, this one will stick.
And, for just a little perspective...

Ha, I find the casting on to be the hardest part. Well, not the actual casting on, but deciding what to make, which yarn to use and do I have the right needles? That's the hard part for me. Now, if someone would go through my stash and patterns and just tell me what to make, life would be golden.
I didn't get it until you showed the perspective shot. A-ha! I understand fully. I have printed the instructions for the wingspan too, but haven't found the right yarn for it yet.
Both are such pretty colors, can not wait to see the finished shawl!
So glad you found your wingspan groove. That green is lovely and I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice. The red was pretty too, but looked destined to fit the wingspan of a 747. ;) Happy weekend!
The Wingspan pattern is written for sock yarn (fingering weight) I think, and there are modifications people made for heavier yarns. They definitely need to cast on less, and probably change the depth too. Nice to see yours is working out!
Hehe... I think the green was a great choice. Casting on for some reason is the hardest part for me... well that and not letting my bunny chew the piece of paper that was holding my row count.
I like the green. It will make a beautiful wingspan.
Oh that Wingspan pattern - the Citron of 2012 (along with the Color Affection)! I do like the green and am looking forward to seeing it progress.

I find that picking a project and yarn when you actually WANT to can be daunting. When I am already knitting three other thing then BAM, inspiration hits and the fourth is no problem. Sigh. Good luck with the wingspan, I think the green will be lovely.

I love using sock yarn for things other than socks - that is going to be a beautiful Wingspan. (and just the right size!)
It's true for me too.... sometimes I know exactly what I'm going to make out of exactly which yarn, but a lot of times it seems like nothing works quite right.
I didn't noticed the sock weight recommendation initially... but I think I know what I'm going to make with the red/black yarn now. :-)
Ooo the green is super fabulous. It'll look perfect on you. I've got so many socks going right now that I can't keep track so I think I'll cast on a cowl this afternoon with some of my handspun for a little break. Glad you enjoyed the porky goodness :)
