Fiber Arts Friday: Uninspired

I have been feeling uninspired about fiber over the last several weeks.  So much that I feel I've done more frogging than anything...

You may remember my Challah Socks... they still look like this:

This nearly became a hat:

I played around with this for a couple of days, but didn't like how the colors were knitting up:

And now I have an overwhelming urge to rip out my Surprise Scarf:

My vision of this project was initially to be woven.  However, my loom is still disassembled.  I decided to make it as a knitting project, but it just doesn't feel right.  It's going on the shelf for a while.  Which means I have nothing on the needles right now.  :-/

I am spinning a little Via Verde Alpaca-Silk, which is yummy,

and skirting my own alpaca fleece, which is fun,

but both are going slowly.

It's a good thing I had a great thrifting day last weekend, otherwise I might feel completely uninspired.

Although, I am half-thinking about making a uterus...

Be sure to join me in reading the Fiber Arts Friday blogs linked in over at Wisdom Begins in Wonder.  Certainly there is something inspiring to be found there.

  1. I know how you feel - I was exactly the same last week and nothing was doing it for me at all. Hope you find your mojo soon!

  2. Hang in there! I go through those times of being uninspired too. It will come back. Your spinning is yummy! Maybe just concentrate on that for awhile and I'll try to send some of my mojo your way until you find your's again. :)

  3. Ugh, I hate ruts. Been there. Your surprise scarf looks so fluffy and warm! Don't ditch it yet.

  4. The best ideas usually come out of these little lulls, can't wait to see what is next for you! The fleece you are skirting looks full and lovely!

  5. I'm with you on the fibery ennui. Well, I'd kind of like to hit the spinning wheel, though for what I'm not certain. But the knitting is just not grabbing me right now. Which is kind of sad as there is a fair bit of downtime at work where I could be knitting. Instead I'm lusting after getting my sewing machine back in order post-sewage back-up and make some skirts from my old tees, reading tutorials around blogland. *sigh*

  6. Perhaps the ennui has infected our knitting group? That would explain why my sweater has gone untouched in the last month. Even though it only needs about one more hour of "hands on" work on it.

    Sheesh.

Perhaps major doses of sunshine will heal this for us all?

  7. @Dutch Hollow - the scarf is soft and squishy, and probably about 25% complete. There's nothing wrong with it. No mistakes. I'm just not in love. Maybe separation will make the heart grow fonder. ;-)

    @Melissa - Thanks. I hope you're right. :-)

@Kristi and Sarah - I'm a little relieved... I was starting to panic since I have no idea what I might bring to Knit Night.

  9. Oh well, not every week can be productive. Sometimes I just enjoy seeing what everyone else has been up to.

    Have a great weekend!

  10. I've been a little 'off my game' lately, too after my trip to Minneapolis. Sighhhhh.
I do love your thrifting post, though!

  11. Wow, it's going around! I didn't know the Knitting Blahs were contagious ... Hope I didn't give it to you!

  12. I hate being uninspired.
I hope you get out of that funk but inspiration does have to hit.

    Enjoy Spring...it will come.

  13. It'll come. Enjoy the skirting and spinning for now. On thrifting, love the jars (I collect pink glass -- I know, surprising).

  14. I really think there is some mojo-stealer out there! Or perhaps it is just the spring. You certainly aren't alone, that's for sure. I love what you are spinning!

  16. I agree... I think it's spring's fault. ;-)

The weather is sooo nice, I just want to be outside playing in the dirt.

  17. I'm sure it's a season-change thing. It's the opposite for us here in Australia. I haven't touched any knitting all summer, but now that the weather has suddenly started to get cooler, I'm feeling the urge again. If I'd just come out of the cold winter that you have I'd be itching to get outside and run around instead - enjoy the fresh air!!

  18. I agree it's a seasonal thing, or rather, transitional thing. I tend to feel uninspired after I finish a big project and don't have the next big thing planned yet. Burying myself in yarn stash usually helps.

Congratulations on the upcoming new babies! You'll have a busy October. Really enjoyed your annual report on the teens :-)
