Fiber Arts Friday: Some Progress

With getting our puppy last weekend I didn't expect to have much fiber time this week, however I did managed to squeeze in a little.

I wound the second skein of Aspen and promptly started knitting with it.  In my sleep-deprived state, I forgot to take a photo of the finished skein.  So here's a photo of the little bit of knitting I accomplished this week.

The bit to the left of the blue marker is the second skein which I spun thinner than the first.  It's much closer to the gauge I intended for the first skein.  :-/

I look forward to the day where I can spin what I want when I want.  I know that will come with practice, but geez, it's frustrating sometimes.

Anyway, I might be fooling myself here, but I don't think the transition between the two skeins is visually apparent in the pattern.  But I can feel the difference and the color seems more blue to the right and green to the left.  So I am having thoughts of starting over and using only the second skein.

With the smaller gauge, the second skein is more than long enough to cover the complete pattern.  However, as I mentioned I have been a bit sleep deprived so I may hold off on making that decision.

In the meantime, it's Fiber Arts Friday so please join me and head over to Wisdom Begins in Wonder to see what all of the fabulous fiber artist have been up to.

Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean! But your yarn is beautiful and as I was reminded last week by some spinners who commented on mine, handspun is supposed to have some variation and be more interesting than millspun. Let's just keep on practicing :-)

  2. The new yarn definitely looks greener. That said, handspun often has gentle undulations of color like that so I don't think it looks abnormal or bad at all. I'd only frog and start over if it is *really* bugging you or you have something in mind for the 1st skein.

  3. Your yarn is so pretty, love the colors and the sheen!

I missed your puppy post last week, congratulations! She's so big already, my Rascal can probably fit in her coat ;-)

  4. Well ... the new skein is definitely greener than the first one ... but I do like them together. What pattern are you working on?

Congrats on the new puppy ... and happy fiber arts Friday!

  5. I used to spin what I wanted when I wanted...now I'm at work frantically reading Fiber Arts Friday posts on my lunch dreaming of my farm. It will all happen when it's supposed to happen. Carpe Diem!

You are doing a great job. I love the two colors together.

    Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

  6. I think it looks lovely like it is. But I've also been there and ripped something out when no one else would have noticed. Such a tough decision!!
BTW--I completely got caught up in your new puppy post. How cute!!

  7. I love the color variations 'asis'. I am totally with you on being able to spin what you want when you want. Right now I'm happy to spin things I can use!!

  8. You can see a difference in the color but I kind of like the change. It looks good.

  9. It's lovely. Whenever I complain about my uneven spinning to my muggle friends, they immediately protest that they like that character in the yarn! It gives it a wonderful texture. Looking forward to the finished product!

  10. Thank you all for your support. :-D

I do like the variations in hand-spun yarn and I'm happy that I am able to spin a relatively consistent yarn. I'm even pretty ok with the color difference, but when I hold this object in my hand it just feels like two different fabrics fused together. it.does.not.please.me.

I've sent a note to my friend who asked me to make this project letting him know that it may be delayed yet again. :-/

@Voie de Vie - this is my own pattern. Eventually I will have a successful test and then I promise to share it.

  11. It looks good to me!

When I spin, I usually try really hard to just let go and let the fiber "tell" me what it wants to be, then I find I avoid frustration. I spin for the satisfaction of it, and then I find a project later. BUT it would be nice to be in total control and spin what I want!

Love the puppy pix! What a cutie-cute face! Yes, CO, dogs and yarn--we do have some things in common!
