Fiber Arts Friday: Plumber Sweater, part 6

When last we left the Plumber Sweater I had just completed the first decrease.

As I've mentioned, the sweater has gotten too big to take on my trips.  So it has stayed home and been relegated to weekend and holiday work.

Fortunately (?) I was sidelined with a cold over the New Year Holiday and thus able to work on this sweater quite a lot.  I figured since I was decreasing, each round should go faster than the previous and I might finish this guy off.  Of course, there are at least two inches between the decreases, so the rounds haven't gone a whole lot faster.  At least not yet.

I've now completed the second decrease which makes the yoke five inches.

I have been working on this sweater for 14 months now and I have five inches to go.  :-/  I don't know what that means for my finish date, but I'm anxious to see it.

Part of me wants to say I will never do a sweater again.  Of course, another part of me already has three sweaters in the queue.  Hopefully the rational part of me will keep only one large project in work at any one time.

What have you been working on?  Please share it with us at Wisdom Begins in Wonder because it's Fiber Arts Friday.

  1. It's gorgeous! I can't wait to see it finished either. I promise myself that I will take my sweater out of time out this week. I promise!

I know what you mean about finding more you want to do. That's a sure sign that you will eventually make another one. No one said it had to be immediately.

    Thank you for sharing.
    Happy Fiber Arts Friday!

  2. Yippy! It looks like a sweater.

Only 5 inches to go? How can you put it down?! I would be up until 3am working away at it with my trusty Advil bottle by my side to keep me lubricated LOL

  3. I can put it down only because each round takes quite a while still.

I suspect once I get on the shorter circs, I will become obsessed with finishing.

  5. You'll definitely get more and more sucked into it as the finish lines becomes clearer! That is kind of the key to getting sweaters moving long quickly - set short goals so you feel the excitement of success/completion. Sometimes the plain stuff is hard to be motivated work on too, partially because it is harder to measure your forward momentum. Despite colorwork being slow, I crank those projects out faster than almost anything else because I can visually take in my progress so easily.

But seriously, for a larger scale project when you are only at home every other week I'd say you are doing great at 14 months! Don't let this stop you from doing another sweater. You have it in you!

  6. Oh, it looks great - I can't wait to see it all finished!

I really want to make 2011 the year I knit myself a sweater, we'll see! I have one I started crocheting about 2 years ago, and I'm going to frog it so I can use the yarn to knit a different one. :)

  7. The visual progress of color work makes a lot of sense. But I'm not sure I'm up for it yet. I do like the idea of a cabled sweater for that reason. Perhaps I shall find one for my queue. ;-)
