Also since my family is originally from Kentucky, we have a generations-love for the Kentucky Derby. Someone in the family usually hosts a Derby Party and the appropriate Kentucky refreshments are served. Betting happens and awards are given for the best hat.
Being in Colorado, the weather is always a bet. The first Saturday in May can be warm and spring-like or it can be cold and snowy.
So I thought that this hat might be a good, location-appropriate solution for the Derby Party.... and as an added benefit, I've been wanting to try colorwork for a while.
I took the hat on my trip to Mexico. I spent a lot of time working on it while in transit and a little bit in the mornings before the others woke up and my mind was fresh.
I am enjoying this colorwork. It's just like putting together a puzzle... and the yarn is lovely... Silk and Cashmere coupled with Merino Wool. I very much may be of the opinion that all yarn should have Cashmere in it. ;-)
Happy Fiber Arts Friday!
Nice colors for your hat and I have heard from my daughter in Denver that it has been 6 below a few days this past week. I think you will get lots of use out of that hat!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell how soft that yarn is, even through the computer screen!!! Love the hat. We have horse owning ancestors from KY, we live in IN across the river from Henderson. But our ancestors' nephew tried to kill the sisters and brother for the horse farm. He didn't succeed thankfully. LOL
ReplyDeleteLovely hat! I have only tried colourwork once so far (on a pair of socks) and I must have been pulling too hard...they wouldn't stretch enough to put on my feet.
ReplyDeleteMy March project will be a second go at it.
Good luck!
Love the pattern, you're right it is like those flip books :) Can't wait to see the finished hat!
ReplyDeleteI am loving that hat! Can't wait to see how it turns out. Lovely yarn!
ReplyDeleteThose are great colors for that hat! I bet the mix of those yarns are just delicious to work with.
ReplyDeleteYour hat is coming along nicely. Great colorwork!
