My Brother and SIL took a trip to Ireland last summer. I asked (or I may have begged) for them to bring some wool back for me.
They found this hank in a cute shop in County Kerry. It's a little more than 6.5 ounces of wool from Kilcar in Donegal, Ireland.
The site says 100% wool, so we don't know for certain what type of wool it is. But following the information provided on the shop's website, the yarn is from Donegal Yarns spun in the Donegal Tweed style. :-)
As an American for more than a few generations, I have ancestors from many places with large portions originating in Ireland. So whether it's technically correct or not, I have always identified as being "mostly Irish." So to have an actual Irish yarn spun in a traditional Irish method is pretty special for me.
Happy Fiber Arts Friday.

Lovely yarn. While I was in Scotland it was my full intention to get some of that Irish tweed yarn. Alas, I never did, but someday, I know I will. It is gorgeous stuff, can't wait to see what you create with it.
Yay, pretty yarn! It makes a great souvenir. :)
Looks like a nice color for a scarf or what are you planning to do with it?
Nice! And it looks like it's some good yardage too.
Lovely yarn, and a sweet memory it will be for you. I wish I had knit when I visited Europe in the 80's and early 2000's. I learned to knit 6 months after the last trip! Argh! I would admire the beautiful yarns in the shop, but had no reason to buy them. Maybe I need to go back? LOL
It is very pretty, I love the stories that attch to handmade items- about where the yarn came from, when and where it was made, who it was made for and why
I was also gifted yarn from Ireland from a close friend. It is beautiful and was very nice to knit with. I used some of mine to knit a Raxtur hat by Stephen West for our son's girlfriend. She said it's the warmest hat she has and she wears it all the time.
That's a nice big skein of yarn, you can do a lot with it. Maybe something with an Irish motif or cables?
That's gorgeous hank of yarn, the colour is beautiful. Agree with Vivian, something with Irish motif or celtic cables perhaps? :)
Ooo, it's so beautiful.
Love it! 10 years ago I never thought I'd ask for yarn from other places now, like you, that is a great gift. We have a lot of Irish in our background so I love the significance of the gift.
