Last Harvest?

We are expecting our first freeze tonight, and snow later this week.  So I picked all I could earlier today and made sure that the hoses have been disconnected from the house.

The winter squash have all been wiped down and are resting on the counter in preparation for storage.

We just have a few onions and rutabagas remaining in the ground and then my 2012 growing season is complete.

  1. That's a nice final haul! You and your garden did well this summer.

And congrats on the new puppy. You have all kinds of new animals at the moment. :)

  2. Thanks! Yes, the garden did very well in some categories... and the glut of babies is completely wonderful and a tiny bit crazy. :-)

  3. A lovely harvest ready for storage. I love reading about what you are doing in the garden. We are so different here in the semi tropics in Australia as we are heading into Summer soon.

  4. Wow! You had a productive garden. What do you do with you squash?
It is sad to see the garden finish for the season but feels good that the work is done and you can begin to prepare for next year curled up by the fireplace.

  6. Most of the time we just cut length-wise, scoop out the seeds, bake cut-side down until tender and eat it straight.

Some times I'll add a little salt or pepper, but I think it's so tasty by itself.

We cook the spaghetti squash the same way and use it instead of pasta.
