How Many Layers are Necessary?

We bought prepared guacamole at the grocery store today.

This brand is new to us, but I'm quite certain we won't be purchasing it again.

A plastic tub of guacamole
with a plastic seal over a plastic pouch
What is the purpose of 3 layers of plastic?

  1. OhMyBob - absolutely agree! Why wrap the contents in additional plastic?????? What were they thinking? I'm not trying to be facetious - I'm certain they a reason.

  2. Ugh, that is absurd. I recently read that one of the agribusinesses is selling individually wrapped bananas. I'm pretty sure bananas actually come in their own wrapping.

  3. @VdV - I understand maintaining the stability of a production line, but it seems at least one of those processes could easily be skipped. :-/

@Jaimie - They've been advertising individually wrapped prunes here recently which I think is pretty un-necessary, but individually wrapped bananas? Really?!?

  4. Shudder. I'll bet it tasted as plastic as its wasteful wrapping, too! Guacamole is so wonderful and easy to make from scratch, I try hard not to succumb to the 'ease' factor! XXO-

  5. @Heather - We haven't had it yet.

It does have me thinking why we're buying Guac when we do know how to make it. I think the reason is that we don't have regular access to decent avocados. I suppose that means we should just go without.

  6. I was watching the Daily Show and apparently Dole is starting to sell individually wrapped bananas!
